Dear KHS families,
As KHS moves into March, we will focus on this month’s PEAK character trait: Positive Attitude. A positive attitude plays a powerful role in both academic success and overall school culture. Students who maintain a positive outlook, approach challenges with optimism and resilience. They are more likely to persevere through difficult coursework while staying motivated when faced with setbacks.
At the same time, a positive attitude extends beyond the classroom. It shapes the culture of our school community. When students treat one another with kindness and respect, they help create a climate where everyone feels safe and supported. At Kenston, we remain committed to maintaining an all inclusive learning environment where all students feel they belong.
Having a positive attitude also increases awareness of peers who may be struggling for a variety of reasons. In recognition of Say Something Week through Sandy Hook Promise, we encourage students to participate in important awareness activities supported by the KHS Student Council. This national initiative empowers students in grades K–12 to recognize warning signs of potential violence or self-harm and report concerns to a trusted adult while discovering helpful resources. It emphasizes the importance of being an “upstander” rather than a bystander, reinforcing that small actions can make a significant difference in keeping our school community safe.
The Do It For James Foundation will be here at KHS on Wednesday, March 4, to deliver an impactful message to our students during the school day and to parents in the evening. The presentation will focus on the dangers of social media and how online influence, peer pressure, and digital trends can negatively impact student decision making and overall mental health.
Event details are listed below, and we strongly encourage all high school parents and guardians to attend the evening session. Your partnership and presence make a meaningful difference as we work together to support our students. Sincerely, |

In coordination with "Say Something Week", Kenston High School is proud to announce a special event for our students during the school day on Wednesday, March 4. A guest speaker from the Do It For James Foundation will speak to students and staff in a special assembly during the school day. The Do It For James Foundation (DIFJF) is a nonprofit organization that works with communities to increase awareness, provide support, and education to both parents and children on crime against students, while also supplying a wide range of assistance for those in need.
There will be planned assemblies for 8-12 students during the school day, as well as a Parent Engagement Evening that same day at 6 pm. Parents / guardians were sent an invitation by email to the event. If you wish to have your child opt out of the student presentation, please complete the opt-out form and submit it to the school prior to the morning of March 4.
We strongly encourage all families to attend this important and informative evening. Together, we can work to better equip our students and community with the knowledge and tools to stay safe. |

ATTENDANCE INFORMATION - State of Ohio |
|
|
In an email sent to parents/guardians on February 19, the administration stressed important information regarding student attendance as reflected on our Ohio state report card. Every instructional day matters, and consistent attendance is a standard expectation. The district does not support or sanction any type of student “skip day.” Students are expected to attend school on all scheduled instructional days unless they are ill or otherwise excused in accordance with district policy and families that communicate honestly when absences are necessary is appreciated. Families are encouraged to schedule appointments, trips, and programs, such as driver’s education, outside of school hours.
EARLY RELEASE REMINDER: For students who need an immediate early release, please provide at least one hour’s notice for early dismissals, which allows adequate time to notify the student and excuse them from class prior to pick-up.
Strong attendance reflects student engagement, consistent learning opportunities in the classroom, and a shared commitment between schools and families. |

IMPORTANT UPDATE - Ohio Dept. of Ed & Workforce |
|
|
|
Parents/Guardians should have received this important email on Monday, February 23. As part of Ohio’s school accountability system, each school district receives an annual report card that reflects how well we are preparing students for life after high school. One important component of this report card is the College, Career, Workforce, and Military Readiness (CCWMR) measure.
The CCWMR component is designed to show how prepared a graduating class is for post-secondary education, direct entry into the workforce, or military service. This measure is calculated each year and is reported publicly through the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW).
A student is considered “ready” if they complete one or more of the state-approved readiness experiences listed in the email that was sent earlier this week: CCWMR |
