Attendance Information - Grades 8-12

February 19, 2026

Dear Parents and Guardians,

On behalf of the Kenston Administration, I hope this message finds you well. We would like to share information highlighting the importance of student attendance and its impact on both your child’s academic success and our school’s overall performance.

In Ohio, school districts are evaluated in part on student attendance, which is included in the state report card rating. Attendance is measured by the percentage of students who are present for the required number of instructional days throughout the school year.  Strong attendance reflects student engagement, consistent learning opportunities in the classroom, and a shared commitment between schools and families.

This year, our district has already experienced six calamity days due to extreme weather conditions which are circumstances beyond our control.  As a result, every instructional day matters, and consistent attendance moving forward is a standard expectation.

We also want to be clear that the district does not support or sanction any type of student “skip day.”  Students are expected to attend school on all scheduled instructional days unless they are ill or otherwise excused in accordance with district policy.

We understand that illnesses and unavoidable circumstances do occur, and we appreciate families that communicate honestly when absences are necessary. Whenever possible, we encourage families to schedule appointments, trips, and programs, such as driver’s education, outside of school hours.   Please prioritize attendance whenever students are healthy and able to be in school.  As a friendly reminder, provide at least one hour’s notice for early dismissals which allows adequate time to notify the student and excuse them from class prior to pick-up.

Together, we want our students to remain engaged, supported, and well positioned for academic success based on their school attendance.  If you have questions or need support related to attendance, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Thank you for your continued partnership.
